About the PPFFA
History:
The Pikes Peak Firefighters Association (P.P.F.F.A.)
has been in existence for over fifty (50)
years. As the Colorado Springs, El Paso
County, Teller Counties, and other nearby
areas experienced steady and substantial
growth during the mid 1900's, the need for
increased fire protection also grew. New
fire departments were formed and existing
departments grew in membership, call volume,
and technology. It was within this growth
that the area fire departments and
firefighters recognized the need to form
an association that would provide a
networking opportunity for everyone involved
in the fire service, a forum to deal with
area specific problems, concerns like mutual
aid and communication, and an opportunity to
provide joint training. The P.P.F.F.A. was
established to meet those needs.
Later, in August 1978 the Association was
granted non-profit corporation status by the
State of Colorado, and recognized by the IRS
also as a non-profit organization
The P.P.F.F.A. has enjoyed a rich history of
hosting annual fire musters, providing a
variety of training opportunities every
year, meeting monthly at area host fire
departments and agencies for networking,
training and business, and hosting various
social events. As the community continues to
grow so does the need to have an association
that will continue to meet the needs of area
firefighters and EMS providers.
Purpose:
The purpose of the P.P.F.F.A., as presented
in the Constitution and Bylaws, is to
enhance the personal career (whether
employed or volunteer) of those individuals
affiliated with emergency response agencies
in the Pikes Peak Region, to provide an
avenue of information in all areas of the
emergency services industry, and to enhance
the services provided by emergency services
personnel to area citizens.
The P.P.F.F.A. seeks to accomplish its goals
and purpose by continuing to provide
educational and training opportunities at periodically scheduled
meetings throughout the year -
by hosting several social events annually by
providing an interesting and informative
newsletter monthly, by developing a
scholarship assistance program for those
members in needs, and by providing other
avenues and forums to communicate new
technologies, training opportunities,
government regulations, employment
opportunities, and special events to the
membership.
